In the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR), tests on water and soil samples have been completed in the village of Maraldy, Kurchum District, where the death of cattle was previously recorded. The inspection was carried out near the gold extraction plant of VSAM Production LLP.
According to Yk-news.kz, the EKR Department of Ecology reported that laboratory analysis did not reveal any exceedances of key indicators.
In water from streams upstream and downstream of the plant, the content of petroleum products, ammonia, cyanides, and heavy metals (zinc, copper, lead, cadmium) was found to be within sanitary standards.
“The acidity (pH) levels, hardness, and calcium and magnesium content correspond to the natural background level for this region. Thus, at the time of the study, no signs of surface water pollution near the plant were established,” the report stated.
Soil analyses taken at the site of the livestock deaths and on the plant’s territory also did not reveal any deviations from the norm.
Based on the results of the inspection, experts stated that the environmental situation in the village of Maraldy is stable.
At the same time, questions remain open: what was the direct cause of the animals’ death, and will additional investigations be carried out involving veterinary services?
Let us recall that earlier, in the village of Maraldy, eight cattle carcasses were found. At that time, experts took samples of water, soil, and pathological material from the dead animals, which were sent to laboratories for comprehensive research.
