The environmental protection prosecutor's office has reported a cover-up of information and violations by the authorities of the Kostanay region in the field of waste management.
According to the Telegram channel "HALYQSTAN", two years ago the agency identified 436 unauthorised landfills, the coordinates of which were recorded by space monitoring means.
Orders were sent to the executive bodies requiring their elimination. Officials soon reported back: all sites were allegedly destroyed. However, a repeat inspection showed that this was not the case.
As reported by environmental prosecutor Damir Aishev, 134 landfills turned out to have been "eliminated" only on paper. In fact, only 89 illegal waste collection sites had actually been cleared.
Violations were also found at official municipal solid waste landfills. Of the 239 sites, only 15 meet sanitary requirements.
Furthermore, the state utility company "Komek-Altyn", which services the landfills in the Altynsarinsky district, has been operating for two years without the necessary environmental permit.
To recall, earlier in Astana 207 unauthorised landfills were cleared and their organisers were fined 414 million tenge.
