One of the pilots from the airline «Air Astana» was found to be under the influence of drugs. It is reported that he was detained at Almaty airport on 23 April while travelling as a passenger.

According to the company's press office, law enforcement authorities are currently conducting a pre-trial investigation into the matter.

«Air Astana has a zero-tolerance policy regarding the use of alcohol or drugs by its employees, as flight safety is our priority. The airline regularly carries out tests on crew members for the presence of alcohol or narcotic substances in their blood», the statement said.

As a result, the airline immediately dismissed the pilot. Meanwhile, media reported, citing the transport police department, that a criminal case has been opened against the airline pilot.

«A criminal case has currently been initiated by the transport police department in connection with this incident. A decision will be made based on the results of the pre-trial investigation», the statement said.
