A verdict has been handed down in Saryagash, Turkestan Region, against the director of secondary school No. 60, Baghdad Dosymbekov, and the chief accountant, Murat Ospanov.
According to Ratel.kz, they were charged under Article 189, Part 4, Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (misappropriation or embezzlement of entrusted property using official position). According to the indictment, between 2021 and 2022, the defendants embezzled 138,591,540 tenge by inflating salaries.
In court, the accused fully admitted their guilt. Dosymbekov even attempted to shield his accomplice, stating that the chief accountant had acted on his instructions.
Ospanov, in turn, confirmed his statement, reporting that he had been forced to comply with pressure from the director for fear of losing his job.
It emerged that teachers were also complicit with the defendants, allowing manipulations with their advances and bonuses.
It is reported that another person was subsequently appointed as acting school director, who discovered the embezzlement and reported it to the prosecutor's office.
During the investigation, the defendants compensated for the damage caused. In the end, the court sentenced both defendants to 7 years each on probation. They were also ordered to pay 61,260 tenge each to the "Victim Compensation Fund".
Incidentally, the court in Turkestan had previously convicted a state auditor from the audit commission of the Turkestan Region, who concealed evidence of embezzlement identified at this school. The auditor was found to be involved in concealing 63.5 million tenge. She was ultimately sentenced to 3 years and 6 months of restricted freedom, with deprivation of the right to hold positions in public service.
