The condition of hydraulic structures has drawn the attention of public figures against the backdrop of the country's flood situation. In particular, one such structure is the dam around the Shoshkakol lake system in the Turkistan region.
In April, the executive director of the public association "Adildik Zholy", Didar Smagulov, raised the question of the existence of the Shoshkakol dam, which cost the budget 2.2 billion tenge.
As the public figure stated, the dam, intended to protect against floods, is absent, despite the money for its construction having been paid. Meanwhile, the founder of the FBRK, Kirill Pavlov, visited the Turkistan region to personally verify the existence and purpose of the dam.
After studying the hydraulic structure project and familiarising himself with the local flora and fauna, Pavlov noted that the called-into-question dam does exist, and the true purpose of its construction is to retain water within the lake system.
According to the project "Construction of a set of measures on the Shoshkakol lake system in the city of Turkistan, Turkistan region", the main objective of the project is to preserve and retain water resources entering the lake system in order to support the life of the local wildlife and vegetation.
In other words, the construction of the dam initially did not imply protection against potential floods, but rather aimed to preserve the naturally established boundaries of the lake system, natural resources, and the ecological situation.
Furthermore, local residents note that representatives of law enforcement agencies visited the site to check the legality of its construction and to ensure it matches the project documentation. As a result, no violations were found.
As for the ecosystem itself, Kirill Pavlov noted the impressive diversity of the natural world and "fantastically magical places for the region". In his opinion, preserving and developing this remarkable nature requires qualified specialists, who, as the public figure believes, are unfortunately in extremely short supply.
