The investigation established that the region's head short track coach was allocated funds to cover the travel, accommodation, and meals of competition participants. Between October 2022 and January 2024, he independently compiled the list of athletes from the regional short track reserve.

Furthermore, he prepared travel expense estimates, indicating inflated costs and adding individuals who did not actually attend the training camps and competitions.

"F. submitted the prepared documents to the department (State Institution 'Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Akimat of Kostanay Region'), after which officials of the department, unaware of F.'s criminal intentions, issued orders for the official travel of the athletes listed by him in the reporting documents", the statement says.

As a result of the coach's actions, he caused material damage to the state totalling 2,493,752 tenge

During the court proceedings, the representative of the injured party, the State Institution 'Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Akimat of Kostanay Region', and the defendant filed a motion to dismiss the case due to the parties reaching a settlement. The defendant compensated for the damage caused, and the representative of the injured party withdrew the civil claim.

"The settlement was supported by the state prosecutor and the defence. The act committed by F. falls under the category of crimes of medium gravity and, by virtue of Article 3, paragraph 29 of the Criminal Code, does not constitute a corruption offence", the statement says.

Consequently, the criminal proceedings against the defendant were terminated, and he was released from liability.
