Embezzlement of budget funds has been uncovered in Astana at the State Institution «Directorate for the Development of Non-Olympic Sports» of Astana.
According to the press service of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM), officials of the State Institution from 2021 to 2022 misappropriated budget funds allocated for training camps.
It is reported that the camps did not actually take place - coaches submitted fictitious reports on the travel, accommodation, and meals of athletes. The amount of damage caused to the state was more than 40 million tenge.
«A pre-trial investigation is being conducted into this fact, and the suspect has been taken into custody by court order. In accordance with the requirements of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code, other information is not subject to disclosure», the statement says.
Recall that it was previously reported that former employees of the Almaty Sports Department and its subordinate organisation are suspected of embezzling budget funds. They are accused of embezzling more than 56 million tenge by calculating and paying salaries to individuals who did not actually work for the department.
It was also reported that in Shymkent, two coaches of oriental martial arts from the School of Higher Sports Mastery No. 3 of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports misappropriated over 27 million tenge. The budget funds were intended for training camps and athletes' trips to competitions.
The accused fully admitted their guilt and compensated for the damage caused at the pre-trial investigation stage. Due to the return of the money, the management of the sports school had no complaints against the defendants. As a result, the court handed down suspended sentences to the coaches.
