Children from the village of Aktogan in the Merke District of the Zhambyl Region are forced to study in a community centre due to unfinished school construction. According to Informburo.kz, 600 schoolchildren are currently being taught in the community centre building.
The school principal stated that the institution's management was forced to take this step out of desperation. The so-called ‘classrooms’ are separated by a curtain, and staff use the stairwell landing as a staff room.
“We have set up three classrooms in the corridor of the community centre. Classes 4 ‘Ә’ and 2 ‘A’ study here in two shifts. Class 4 ‘A’ studies here. We have been provided with building materials. For our part, we make changes as needed to ensure comfort,” says Ilyas Zhunishzhanov, director of Secondary School No. 4.
For her part, Aigerim Altynbayeva, head of the district education department, insists that the specialists overseeing public procurement are to blame for the delay in the school's construction.
“I think it would be better if the public procurement process began at the start of the year, so that major repairs in educational organisations could begin in a timely manner. We submit an application in January. But for various reasons, the tender was awarded late,” said the head of the department.
It will be recalled that earlier it was reported that in the village of Novonezhinka in the Auliekol District of the Kostanay Region, schoolchildren are forced to study in a half-renovated building. Only four classrooms are ready in the building, where lessons are held for middle school students.
Senior students study in the local wrestling hall, while first-graders study in the kindergarten. It is reported that Novonezhinka Secondary School has just over 300 students in total.
