The Anti-Corruption Service has completed its investigation into the chairman of the fire service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the heads of the Department of Emergency Situations of Shymkent and the Zhetysu region.
According to the press service of the agency, the officials are suspected of receiving bribes from a businessman totalling more than 40 million tenge.
“The investigating court has sanctioned a pre-trial restriction in the form of detention for the suspects. The criminal case is being heard on its merits by the military court of the Akmola garrison. In accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code, other information in the interests of the investigation is not subject to disclosure,” the statement reads.
Earlier, it was reported that the officials are suspected of systematically receiving bribes from entrepreneurs for patronage in the field of fire safety, coercing inspected organisations into purchasing their services by concluding contracts, and also ensuring timely payment for them.
