The case of raiding involving Nurbek Nazarbayev has been reopened after a year of inactivity

Law enforcement agencies have reopened a criminal case into a corporate raid involving Nurbol Nazarbayev — the nephew of former president Nursultan Nazarbayev. The case concerns the alleged illegal alienation of a stake in the company LLP «PORUS», owned by entrepreneur Kuat Yermentayev.

According to media reports, the Almaty Department of Economic Investigations had previously conducted a pre-trial investigation under Article 249, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan («Corporate Raiding»). However, in February last year, the case was closed due to the absence of a criminal offence.

«Following the analysis of the pre-trial materials and taking into account the evidence submitted by K. Yermentayev, the previously adopted decision was overturned on 9 October 2025,» said Prosecutor General Berik Asylov.

He clarified that additional investigative actions are currently underway, and the progress of the pre-trial investigation is being monitored by the prosecutor's office.

Earlier, Yermurat Bapi had publicly appealed to the Prosecutor General, claiming that entrepreneurs and citizens had repeatedly complained about abuses by Nurbol Nazarbayev. Among the complainants are around one thousand workers from the former Kamensky State Farm, who lost their land shares, and Yermentayev himself, who reported the illegal re-registration of property.

According to the deputy, his initiative is not directed against the Nazarbayev family, but is linked to the need to restore justice and protect the victims. He stressed that ignoring such facts undermines trust in President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's course towards building a «Just Kazakhstan».
