Businessman Serik Bekkairov, who dealt in the sale of cars and thoroughbred horses, has been convicted of four counts of fraud. Among the victims are Majilis deputy Daulet Turlykhanov and singer Roza Rymbayeva.
According to the Telegram channel «Nege.Aqsha», in the summer of 2013 Bekkairov took $1.2 million from Turlykhanov to build an asphalt-concrete plant. Subsequently, the businessman promised to transfer a 50% stake in the enterprise to him.
In court, however, Bekkairov stated that he had known Turlykhanov for a long time but had not taken any money from him.
«While in the pre-trial detention centre, an investigator and Turlykhanov's people approached me, demanding $2,000,000 and threatening me. The charges in this episode were fabricated. D. B. Turlykhanov's side continues to threaten me to this day», Bekkairov said.
Furthermore, the defendant claimed he did not deceive Roza Rymbayeva. According to him, in 2017 he did indeed buy an apartment from her in Almaty for $400 thousand.
They entered into a loan agreement for three years, but during this time Bekkairov only transferred $205 thousand to Rymbayeva. He did not pay the remaining amount on time because the pandemic began in 2020, and his business allegedly came to a halt.
«He does not know what has happened to the apartment now. However, the investigation claims that Bekkairov resold the property and spent the money», the message states.
In 2019, a third victim transferred $70 thousand to Bekkairov. The defendant allegedly promised to resolve the issue of purchasing electricity at a favourable price through the Minister of Energy.
In 2020, Bekkairov bought a car from a fourth victim for $75 thousand, but promised to pay for it later. He also denied guilt regarding these episodes.
The court found Serik Bekkairov guilty and sentenced him to 6 years and 8 months in prison.
«The convicted person is obliged to pay Turlykhanov 533,748,000 tenge, Rymbayeva — 91,181,950 tenge, and also compensate the damage to two other victims amounting to 31-33 million tenge», the message states.
