Journalists have discovered a discrepancy in the publication by the Almaty mayor's office regarding the city's supposed inclusion in the top 10 best travel destinations according to The New York Times.
According to the Telegram channel «Buzyq», in January The New York Times did mention Almaty in its article «52 Places to Go in 2024», but the city was placed 25th on the list, rather than in the top ten as stated in the mayor's office publication.
Following a request from the editorial team, the press service of Almaty's mayor Yerbolat Dossayev referred to a certain printed version of the article, but due to the alleged high workload of staff, they ultimately did not provide any supporting materials.
It is noted that an hour after the journalists' inquiry, the publication was removed from the mayor's office social media accounts.
