The akim of Almaty, Darkhan Satybaldy, held a meeting with the leadership of the Bostandyk district to review key indicators of socio-economic development, as well as problematic issues concerning infrastructure and the social sphere.

According to the press service of the city akimat, the district has exceeded its plan for the first half of the year. Since the start of the year, the district's budget has received 708.8 billion tenge, against a planned 663.5 billion tenge

However, the Almaty akimat has identified a number of systemic problems in the management of the district, including:

  • poor communication with the public;
  • insufficient funding for projects in water supply, road, and social infrastructure;
  • a formal approach to handling citizens' appeals;
  • the unsatisfactory condition of some schools and medical institutions;
  • delays in the modernisation of a number of socially significant facilities;
  • a lack of comprehensive safety measures;
  • insufficient preventative work by the police.

Darkhan Satybaldy instructed those responsible to promptly address the identified issues and report back on the results as soon as possible. He noted that the city akimat will now monitor roads, pavements, landscaping, and utility networks on a weekly basis.

"You sit and wait for something to break, and when it breaks, you say: we’ll prepare the design and estimate documentation – that will take another year. Then you hold a tender, but due to an unscrupulous contractor, the work still cannot be completed. But since you are the district akim, you need to find a solution," Satybaldy said to the akim of the Bostandyk district.

It has been reported that, as part of these instructions, the Bostandyk district plans to complete the reconstruction of water supply, sewage, heating, and electrical networks by the end of the year. In addition, over 3,000 streetlights are expected to be replaced and new lighting poles installed.

Following the meeting, Darkhan Satybaldy held a reception for citizens, where residents of the district raised issues concerning landscaping, housing and communal services, as well as the development of engineering and social infrastructure. It is reported that the akim gave instructions and set deadlines for each request.
