The Ministry of Transport has published on the «Open NPA» portal a draft order introducing paid travel on a section of the republican road «Balkhash – Burylbaytal». Public discussion will last until 9 September.
The explanatory note to the draft states that this is being done to improve the country's transport and logistics potential.
The money is planned to be used for road repair and maintenance, as well as for the purchase of necessary equipment for servicing toll roads.
Recall that in 2022, the former Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Kairbek Uskenbaev reported that 2.5 thousand km of second-category roads were planned to be made toll roads after bringing them into normal condition.
At that time, the following sections were planned to be made toll roads: Kyzylorda — Aral, Aktobe — Uralsk, Aktobe — Orenburg, Kainar — Bishkek, Zhetibay — Shetpe — Beineu — Akzhigit, Pavlodar — Semey, Northern Bypass of Astana, Uralsk — Saratov, Kokshetau — Petropavlovsk, Astana — Atbasar, Pavlodar — Omsk, Semey — Kalbatau.
In 2023, from 8 October to 1 December, some of them, namely the roads «Beineu-Akzhigit», «Pavlodar-Omsk», «Kokshetau-Petropavlovsk» and «Uralsk-Saratov», began operating on a paid basis.
At the same time, in September of last year, the Ministry of Transport reported that JSC «NC «KazAvtoZhol» would review the contract for the installation and maintenance of the toll collection system for republican roads with LLP «Computer Vision Technologies». At the time, the department stated its intention to reduce the amount of payments for operating costs.
