Two employees of JSC "Kazakhtelecom" died on 4 and 5 August while carrying out work on communication line poles in the Zhambyl and Kostanay regions. Investigations involving government bodies are being conducted into both incidents.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE ZHAMBYL REGION
According to the Telegram channel "HALYQSTAN", on 4 August in the village of Asa, Zhambyl district, 61-year-old Azalkhan Tursunov, a lorry-loader driver and electrician at JSC Kazakhtelecom, died. He was carrying out the replacement of a communication pole using a KamAZ lorry-loader vehicle.
According to preliminary data, during the work the machinery came into contact with wires from a nearby power transmission line. The man received a fatal electric shock.
As part of the investigation, the lead engineer of the Zhambyl line-technical workshop, who was responsible for carrying out the work, was taken to the police department for investigative actions. A range of forensic examinations has been commissioned, including a forensic medical examination. The lorry-loader vehicle was placed in a specialist compound in Taraz as material evidence.
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted into the fatality. Law enforcement authorities will need to establish the circumstances of what happened and provide a legal assessment of compliance with safety requirements.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE KOSTANAY REGION
On 5 August in the settlement of Moskalyovka, Auliekol district, Kostanay region, 56-year-old Mubarak Bektauov, an electrician at the line-technical workshop of JSC Kazakhtelecom, died.
It is reported that a team was dismantling old wooden poles on Appelskaya Street using a crane-lorry. When the driver lifted one of the poles to move it, the hook came away from the crane. The pole fell and struck the electrician. The injuries sustained proved incompatible with life.
The fact of the accident was confirmed by law enforcement authorities. The police reported that a criminal case had been registered.
Deputy Head of the Kostanay Region Police Department Yerlan Seralin stated that investigative actions are ongoing, and the circumstances and causes of what happened are being established. A procedural decision will be made based on the results of the investigation.
WHAT KAZAKHTELECOM SAID
The company reported that in both cases an ambulance and employees of the authorised bodies were called to the scenes of the incidents. Branch management and the occupational safety service were also notified of what had happened.
Kazakhtelecom stated that it would conduct an additional check of compliance with occupational safety requirements, regardless of the outcomes of the investigations. The company also said it would provide the families of the deceased with the necessary support and would assist in establishing all the circumstances.
WHY THESE CASES HAVE ATTRACTED ATTENTION
Both fatal incidents occurred within two days of each other and were connected to work on replacing or dismantling communication poles using lorry-mounted cranes.
It is worth noting that according to the official reports of JSC Kazakhtelecom for 2020-2024, the number of fatalities connected with the company's production activities was 0.
At the same time, in December 2025 in Petropavlovsk, a fatal accident occurred. During installation work on the premises of a private company, a lifting platform with two workers came away. One of them, a 35-year-old man, died at the scene, while the second sustained minor injuries.
