Three citizens of Kazakhstan who were on the international wanted list have been extradited from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Kazakhstan. All three have been placed in pre-trial detention.
HOW THE EXTRADITION TOOK PLACE
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the extradition was carried out jointly with the Anti-Corruption Service of the National Security Committee (ACS NSC) and the Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), with the assistance of the Kazakh embassy in the UAE.
The decision was the result of agreements reached during a visit by a delegation of the Prosecutor General's Office led by Deputy Prosecutor General Askhat Zhumagali to the UAE. The parties discussed co-operation in the field of combating crime and the extradition of wanted persons.
WHAT THE FIRST SUSPECT WAS WANTED FOR
One of those extradited is suspected of misappropriating funds belonging to a victim totalling $368,000. In 2019–2020, together with an accomplice, he promised assistance in obtaining a plot of land for the construction of an international centre in Astana.
After committing the alleged crime, the suspect fled from the criminal prosecution authorities and was placed on the international wanted list.
ON WHAT CHARGES THE SECOND SUSPECT WAS WANTED
Another citizen of Kazakhstan was wanted on suspicion of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, robbery and hooliganism.
According to the prosecutor's office, in 2021 in Almaty, as part of a group, he attacked a victim, caused him grievous bodily harm and openly stole personal property worth more than 100,000 tenge.
WHAT THE THIRD SUSPECT IS SUSPECTED OF
The third person extradited is suspected of having stolen $24,200 from a Chinese citizen in Astana in the summer of 2026. This amount constitutes a particularly large sum.
After committing the alleged crime, he also fled from the criminal prosecution authorities and was placed on the international wanted list.
WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE CASES NOW
All three were located on the territory of the UAE, after which, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, they were extradited to Kazakhstan.
The suspects are currently in pre-trial detention. Pre-trial investigations against them have been resumed.
