Student from Kazakhstan died in the Italian town of Briatico

The body of a 21-year-old citizen of Kazakhstan was discovered among the coastal rocks in the Italian town of Briatico. The circumstances of his death are being established by the competent authorities of Italy and Kazakh diplomats.

HOW THE BODY WAS DISCOVERED

According to Italian media, on the morning of 9 June rescuers spotted a human body in the sea off the coast of the town of Briatico in the province of Vibo Valentia. Due to long hair, emergency services initially assumed the deceased was a woman, but the identity was later established.

According to preliminary data, death occurred approximately 15 hours before the body was discovered.

WHAT VERSIONS ARE BEING CONSIDERED

One of the main versions of the cause of death is drowning. No traces of weapon-inflicted injuries were found.

Trauma was recorded on the body, which could presumably have resulted from impact against the rocks.

A mobile phone was found in the deceased’s pocket. Bags of clothing, a waist bag, and personal belongings were discovered nearby on the rocks.

WHAT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS REPORTED

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reported that the circumstances of the incident are still being investigated.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Our embassy and the competent authorities of Italy are investigating the circumstances of the incident. Kazakh diplomats are in contact with the relatives and are providing the necessary consular and legal assistance,” the MFA of Kazakhstan reported.

At the moment, the official cause of death has not been announced. The investigation is ongoing.
