The Inter-District Criminal Court of Astana has sentenced six citizens of a Central Asian state for kidnapping and arbitrariness. Five were sentenced to 8 years in prison, and another participant received 7 years and 6 months in prison.
WHAT THE COURT ESTABLISHED
According to the prosecutor's office of the Saryarka district of Astana, the state prosecution was upheld in the criminal case of kidnapping and arbitrariness.
During the trial, it was established that on 9 December 2024, one of the group members demanded money from the victim for an allegedly unperformed service. As reported by the prosecutor's office, the man used violence and forced the victim to transfer 80,000 tenge.
HOW THE KIDNAPPING OCCURRED
According to the case materials, the defendants later acted as a group by prior conspiracy. On the territory of Astana, they kidnapped the victim using violence for mercenary motives.
The prosecutor's office noted that during the proceedings, the state prosecutor presented sufficient evidence confirming the guilt of the defendants.
WHAT PUNISHMENT THE COURT IMPOSED
By the verdict of the Inter-District Criminal Court of Astana, five defendants were found guilty of kidnapping, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy for mercenary motives. Each was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
Another participant in the case was found guilty of aiding in kidnapping and arbitrariness. The court sentenced him to 7 years and 6 months in prison.
WHAT THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE REMINDED
The Prosecutor's Office of Astana reminded that the legislation provides for a penalty of up to 15 years in prison for kidnapping. For arbitrariness, the law provides for a penalty of up to 7 years in prison.
