Residents of the village of Kushoky in the Bukhar-Zhyrau district of the Karagandy region have recorded an open appeal to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. According to them, after two weeks of water supply disruptions, the water supply was restored, but black water with a strong unpleasant odour began to flow from the taps.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to msu.city, residents of the village claim that they experienced serious problems with their water supply for two weeks. After the water supply was restored, the villagers say its quality proved unsatisfactory. In their appeal, they state that the water is black in colour and has an unpleasant odour, making it, in their view, impossible to use for drinking, cooking, and household needs.
According to the residents, the current situation raises concerns for people's health.
"We have been without water for two weeks in the heat. Many of us have small children. After work, people can neither prepare dinner nor wash properly," said one of the village's female residents.
WHAT LOCAL AUTHORITIES RESPONDED
The acting akim of the Bukhar-Zhyrau district, Bakhtiyar Zhambyrayev, stated that the existing water supply networks have become unusable. According to him, work is being carried out in stages to reduce the number of bursts in the networks.
During the meeting, residents also asked questions about the causes of the current situation, the timeline for the work, and the lack, in their words, of timely information for the public.
The acting akim of the village of Kushoky, Abzal Aktanov, apologised to the residents for the inconvenience caused and stated that he is ready to resign.
The editorial board of FBRK has sent a request to the akimat of the Karagandy region, asking them to comment on the reasons for the water supply disruptions and the quality of the water being supplied.
