A literary and musical event "Abai's Legacy – the Nation's Heritage" took place in Atyrau, bringing together residents of the region and guests of the city in honour of the poet, thinker and educator Abai Kunanbaev. The evening combined a theatrical performance, a formal ceremony and a concert programme, demonstrating how the poet's legacy is being reinterpreted in modern society.
HOW THE EVENT UNFOLDED
According to the Regional Communications Service, the event was timed to coincide with Abai Day. The evening opened with a theatrical poetic prologue prepared by actors from the Makhambet Academic Kazakh Drama Theatre. The performance depicted Abai's life journey and educational work, as well as the instructive content of his poems and his "Words of Edification".
WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY AKIM ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ABAI'S LEGACY
The Deputy Akim of Atyrau Region, Daryn Shamuratov, addressed those gathered with congratulations, noting the importance of promoting the poet's legacy for modern society.
"Abai is a beacon, a guiding star of Kazakh spirituality. For it to shine, we must work on developing the civilisation of Abai. We must make efforts to cultivate perfection in the younger generation and build the good society that the great poet dreamed of," said Shamuratov.
Following the speech, event participants laid flowers at the monument to Abai, honouring the poet's memory.
THE EVENING CONCLUDED WITH A PHILHARMONIC CONCERT
The literary and musical evening continued with a concert programme performed by artists from the regional philharmonic. Audiences were treated to Abai's songs, kuis and poetic compositions created on the basis of his works.
