The Main Transport Prosecutor's Office has reported identifying cases of cold steel advertising being placed on online platforms. Following the investigation, one marketplace has been held administratively liable.
What violations have been identified
During the investigation, together with the Information Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Information, it was established that suspects were purchasing prohibited items through online stores. In particular, it was found that the marketplace Satu․kz was advertising cold steel.
As a result, the platform was held administratively liable under Article 455 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Violation of advertising legislation").
WHAT ARE THE PENALTIES FOR ILLEGAL TRAFFICKING
Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, or carrying of cold steel falls under the provisions of Article 287 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Illegal handling of weapons").
The department added that a person who voluntarily surrenders cold steel, including knuckledusters, is exempt from criminal liability.
WHAT MEASURES HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED AT TRANSPORT HUBS
At transport facilities — in airports and railway stations — informational posters and banners have been placed regarding criminal liability for the illegal trafficking of cold steel. Special boxes for the voluntary surrender of such items have also been installed.
