A trial has begun in Aktobe of Raimbek Kaliullinov, who is accused of attempting to murder a relative. According to the prosecution's version of events, the senior police lieutenant fired several shots at his brother-in-law with his service pistol, but doctors saved the victim's life.
WHAT THE INDICTMENT SAYS
According to Hronika.kz, on 28 March 2026 Raimbek Kaliullinov received his assigned Makarov service pistol and 16 rounds of live ammunition at the duty station. At that time, he was working as an assistant to the district police inspector in the group of district inspectors of the public safety department of the Khromtau district police department.
Kaliullinov arrived at the police station No. 3 in the city of Khromtau and was due to start his night shift at 22:00. However, at around 13:00, according to the case files, he left his place of duty along with his service weapon.
HOW THE EVENTS UNFOLDED
In the afternoon, Kaliullinov changed into civilian clothes while keeping his service weapon on him, after which he drove with his family to his uncle's house in the village of Don, Khromtau district.
In the garage of the house, as stated in the indictment, he consumed alcohol together with his uncle and brother-in-law Sabyrzhan Izbayev. Later, the relatives went to Khromtau, where at around 19:00 they went into a shop and bought two bottles of vodka and snacks.
According to the prosecution's version of events, Kaliullinov continued drinking alcohol while in his service uniform, carrying his Makarov service pistol and two magazines of ammunition.
WHAT THE POLICE OFFICER IS ACCUSED OF
During the gathering, according to the indictment, Kaliullinov learned from his brother-in-law that he had been beating his wife — the police officer's sister. After that, according to the prosecution, he formed the intent to kill Izbayev.
At around 22:30, while in a state of alcohol intoxication, Kaliullinov loaded the service pistol, aimed it at his brother-in-law and fired one shot. Then, as the prosecution claims, he fired a further three shots.
After that, the pistol jammed and he was unable to continue firing. The bullets struck Izbayev in the chest, lungs and liver, but doctors saved his life.
The actions of Raimbek Kaliullinov have been classified under Part 3 of Article 24 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Preparation for a crime and attempt to commit a crime") and Part 1 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Murder").
WHAT THE EXPERT EXAMINATION SHOWED
According to the psychological-psychiatric examination, Raimbek Kaliullinov did not suffer from mental disorders. The experts also stated that at the time of the alleged offence, he understood the actual nature and social danger of his actions and was able to control them.
