A nurse at the City Children's Hospital No.1 in Astana has been diagnosed with an open form of tuberculosis. The employee last reported for work on 24 April 2026 and is now undergoing treatment at the city centre for phthisiopulmonology.
WHAT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAID
According to the Astana City Department of Public Health, the nurse was not among those who had been in contact with tuberculosis and had been cleared for work. At the time she was carrying out her duties, the disease had not been detected, reports Kazinform News Agency.
The department clarified that the employee last had a fluorography examination at the clinic in February 2026. No signs of pathology were found on the image at that time. After her health deteriorated, she sought medical attention in April 2026, at which point the disease was identified.
Since 27 April 2026, the nurse has been undergoing treatment at the Astana City Centre for Phthisiopulmonology.
WHAT MEASURES WERE TAKEN AT THE HOSPITAL
Following the detection of the disease, a list of people who had been in contact with her over the previous three months was established.
A repeat fluorography examination was carried out on 39 hospital employees for whom six months or more had passed since their previous check-up. According to the department, all results came back negative.
Preventive measures were also undertaken at the medical facility. Bedding was subjected to chamber disinfection, and mattresses were treated with disinfectant solution. Daily cleaning using disinfectants and ultraviolet air treatment continue in the wards and other areas of the hospital.
HOW STAFF MONITORING IS ORGANISED
As noted by the Department of Public Health, employees starting work undergo a fluorography examination, with the images added to their medical record.
The hospital also maintains a regime of regular room ventilation and carries out routine cleaning at least twice a day.
