In the Karaganda Region, 8 natural fires were extinguished over a preliminary area of 200 hectares. Another 5 fires involving the burning of dry grass and shrubs are still being extinguished.

HOW MANY FIRES WERE EXTINGUISHED

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), natural fires were recorded in the territories of Karkaraly, Bukhar-Zhyrau, Nurinsky, and Osakarovsky districts and Karaganda. The total preliminary area of the extinguished hotspots was 200 hectares.

At the same time, work continues in Shet, Bukhar-Zhyrau, and Karkaraly districts, where dry grass and shrubs are burning in mountainous steppe terrain.

WHY FIREFIGHTING IS COMPLICATED

Rescuers are facing hard-to-reach mountainous steppe terrain, hot weather, and strong gusty winds. Because of the wind, the direction in which the fire spread changed repeatedly, which complicates the work.

More than 400 people and over 100 units of equipment from the MES, local executive bodies, and forestry enterprises were deployed to extinguish the fires.

HOW FIREFIGHTING IS COORDINATED

An operational headquarters is working around the clock. Specialists are constantly monitoring the fire situation and coordinating the deployed forces and resources.

The MES reports that the situation remains under the agency's control.

CONTEXT

The fires are occurring against the backdrop of a difficult fire situation in the neighbouring Kostanay Region. On 8 September, 11 fires were registered in Denisovsky District, and in Karabalyk District a large natural fire spread to the territory of the Karadum Forestry.

The fire in Karabalyk District was completely extinguished on 9 September over an area of about 850 hectares. At the same time, high and emergency fire danger persisted in certain districts of Kostanay Region.
