In Kazakhstan, cases of mass leakage of citizens' personal data are being investigated, including theories about access to information through various systems. The details of the case are not being disclosed due to ongoing investigative measures.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
According to the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, investigative measures are currently underway, and the disclosure of details is restricted.
First Vice-Minister Rostislav Konyashkin stated that it is premature to draw conclusions about the involvement of employees at public service centres (Tsesons). According to him, access to state information systems is distributed according to user roles, which implies a differentiation of access rights.
He also noted that if violations of the law or unlawful use of data by employees are identified, measures will be taken against them within the framework of current legislation.
MAIN SOURCES OF DATA LEAKS
According to the Vice-Minister, personal data leaks can occur not only through state systems.
In particular, common causes cited include:
- phishing links;
- telephone calls attempting to obtain data;
- QR codes leading to illegal websites;
- leaks from microfinance organisations and private information systems.
Konyashkin noted that authorities are working to tighten liability for violations in the field of data protection.
