A mass fish death has been recorded in the Zhangaly District of the West Kazakhstan Region. Dead fish have been found in the Aydyn and Sary Aydyn reservoirs, located on the outskirts of the settlement.

CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE INCIDENT

Footage filmed on the lake, showing a large number of dead fish on its surface, has been circulating on social media, reports the Telegram channel «HALYQSTAN».

According to Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources, Darkhan Zakarina, the incident occurred in the village of Zhanakazan.

«We are talking about the Aydyn and Sary Aydyn reservoirs, which are connected by a channel 0.5 to 1 metre deep. It is believed that the channel froze to the bottom during the winter, which may have led to the death of the fish,» noted Darkhan Zakarina.

According to information from the ZKO Akimat, the fish that died were mainly crucian carp, predominantly young fish around one year old.

The final causes of the incident have not yet been determined. The total amount of dead fish is also being clarified.

WHAT MEASURES ARE BEING TAKEN

Currently, employees of local executive bodies are carrying out work to dispose of the dead fish. Specialists from the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service (SES) and the Veterinary Service have taken samples of water and fish for laboratory analysis. Their results are not yet ready.

Earlier in the city of Shymkent, the death of almost a tonne of fish was also recorded in the Badam River. According to ecologists, the cause was the ingress of wastewater into the reservoir due to a broken sewer pipe. The total damage to the state was estimated at 2.3 million tenge.
