From 1 October 2026, a new procedure for placing signs came into force in Kazakhstan. Entrepreneurs must now pre-approve sketches with local executive bodies, and submit an application instead of a notification.
WHAT HAS CHANGED IN THE PROCEDURE FOR PLACING SIGNS
According to Tengrinews.kz, from 1 October a new public service, "Approval of sign placement", is in effect in Kazakhstan. It provides for mandatory pre-approval of the sketch with the local akimat.
Previously, entrepreneurs only needed to send a notification about the placement of a sign. Now they must submit an application in the prescribed form and attach a sketch. The time for providing the public service is four working days.
HOW TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR APPROVAL
Entrepreneurs can submit documents electronically via the eGov portal, the astana.kz website, or directly to the local akimat.
When applying in person through the office, the applicant is issued a receipt for the acceptance of documents. When submitting electronically, the status of the application review and the result of the service are available in the personal account on the portal.
WHICH SIGNS THE NEW PROCEDURE APPLIES TO
The requirement applies to signs of individuals and legal entities placed in cities of republican significance, the capital, cities of regional and district significance, as well as in villages and settlements.
A sign means information about the name and type of activity of an entrepreneur or organisation, including means of individualisation. It must be located at the place where the activity is actually carried out.
ON WHAT GROUNDS APPROVAL MAY BE REFUSED
The sign sketch must comply with the design code of the locality and the requirements of language legislation. When reviewing the application, the akimat takes into account the location, dimensions, proportions and structural design of the sign, as well as its compliance with the architecture of the facade.
Grounds for refusal may include the sketch not meeting the established requirements, violation of the rules for placing signs, non-compliance with the requirements for the architectural appearance of the facade or language legislation. A refusal may also be issued in the case of providing unreliable documents.
