Kazakhstan has begun a large-scale modernisation of its air navigation infrastructure, planned over the next five years. Authorities are also expanding support for domestic flights, building new airports, and increasing the number of international routes.
WHAT CHANGES WILL AFFECT THE AVIATION SYSTEM
Measures for the development of the aviation industry were reported at a Government meeting by Minister of Transport, Nurlan Sauranbayev. The basis of the modernisation is a contract with one of the leading American corporations to update the air traffic control system.
According to him, the update is aimed at improving the efficiency of Kazakhstan's air corridors.
At the same time, authorities are strengthening regional connectivity by supporting domestic transport. 6.4 billion tenge has been allocated to subsidise 24 socially significant routes.
WHAT SUPPORT MEASURES HAVE BEEN PREPARED FOR AIR CARRIERS
Kazakhstan has initiated legislative amendments that allow regions to subsidise interregional flights. In addition, domestic regular routes are planned to be exempt from value added tax (VAT).
On the instructions of the Head of State, the construction of airports in Katon-Karagay, Zaysan and Kenderli continues. The restoration of the Arkalyk airport is also underway.
HOW THE INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT NETWORK IS EXPANDING
According to Nurlan Sauranbayev, the volume of transit flights through Kazakhstan has quadrupled over the past five years. He noted that support for tourist destinations should give additional impetus to the development of domestic routes.
Since the beginning of this year, 4 new international flights have already been launched. By the end of the year, another 11 interstate routes are planned to be opened or resumed.
In addition, the country's aircraft fleet will be supplemented by 9 aircraft in 2026. According to Government data, 3 aircraft have already been purchased.
