Kazakhstan, alongside the development of the transport infrastructure of the Middle Corridor, is focusing on shaping the route's financial architecture. One element of this process is considered to be attracting international capital for the implementation of infrastructure projects.
WHY FINANCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE HAS BECOME RELEVANT
According to the Telegram channel "Oil and Gas of Kazakhstan", the development of the Middle Corridor is accompanied by the launch of new multimodal terminals and the modernisation of port and transport infrastructure. It is noted that further development of the route requires not only the construction of new facilities but also the creation of long-term financing mechanisms.
It is also emphasised that large infrastructure projects, including terminals, ferries, oil-loading complexes, logistics centres and the expansion of port capacities, require access to international sources of capital.
WHAT ROLE DO INVESTMENT BANKS PLAY
As an example, the activity of JSC "Teniz Capital Investment Banking" is cited. In 2024, the company arranged the placement of bonds for the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) on the AIX platform.
BSTDB specialises in financing trade and infrastructure projects in the Black Sea region, through which the Middle Corridor passes.
WHAT IS SAID ABOUT KAZAKHSTAN'S POSSIBLE MEMBERSHIP IN BSTDB
The publication also includes a comment from a representative of JSC "Teniz Capital Investment Banking", Maxim Zankin, who in 2024 expressed an opinion on the advisability of Kazakhstan joining the BSTDB.
According to him, membership in the bank could provide Kazakhstan with additional sources of funding for infrastructure projects, as well as expand opportunities for participation in the development of the Middle Corridor beyond the country's borders and for representing its interests through BSTDB.
WHY THIS ISSUE IS BEING CONSIDERED
It is noted that competition between international transport routes depends not only on the development of railway and port infrastructure, but also on the ability to attract investment for the implementation of new projects.
