During the state visit of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan, the two heads of state were shown the launch of the unmanned freight truck route “Astana – Moscow”. The trucks crossed the Kazakh-Russian border simultaneously in an automated mode via the “Zhana Zhol” checkpoint and continued on to their destinations.

HOW THE NEW ROUTE WAS LAUNCHED

The Ministries of Transport of Kazakhstan and Russia, together with PJSC “KAMAZ”, launched unmanned transit for freight vehicles between the two countries.

During the demonstration, the trucks crossed the border via the “Zhana Zhol” checkpoint. After passing through the border section, the vehicles continued along the route towards their final destinations.

HOW LONG THE JOURNEY TOOK

According to the report, the route, which is approximately 3,000 km long, was completed in two days. The materials specify that travel time was reduced by more than half thanks to the use of unmanned technologies.

This format of completing such a long route with unmanned freight vehicles has been implemented for the first time anywhere in the world.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT FURTHER COOPERATION

The parties announced their intention to continue working together on the development of the project. This involves creating an institutional framework and the necessary infrastructure for further scaling of unmanned freight transport.
