Heavy rain in Kentau caused flooding of streets and residential buildings.

23 April in the city of Kentau, Turkestan region, there was heavy rain, which led to the flooding of streets, markets and the entrances of residential buildings. In some areas, water levels reached 10–25 cm. Rescue workers and municipal services have been deployed to deal with the aftermath.

WHAT HAPPENED

According to the Kentau city akimat, heavy rain fell the previous day and lasted for about an hour. During this time, water accumulated on the streets, in some places forming streams, and flooding was reported at markets and the entrances of apartment buildings.

In some parts of the city, water levels reached 10–25 cm, requiring an immediate response from municipal services and rescue workers.

CLEAN-UP OPERATION

According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), around 180 personnel, as well as 24 motor pumps and 14 pieces of equipment, have been deployed to deal with the effects of the flooding. In addition, 500 bags of inert materials were used.

Services worked in an enhanced mode to ensure safety in the flooded areas.

SCOPE OF WORK COMPLETED

During the operations, approximately 2,425 cubic metres of water were pumped out. Work continued throughout the night.

As of now, the clean-up after the torrential rain has been completed, and the situation in the city is under the control of local services.
