Since the beginning of the year in Almaty, 2,003 administrative protocols have been drawn up against unscrupulous entrepreneurs for a total sum of over KZT 82 million. Among the violations is exceeding the maximum trade markup on socially significant food products. Inspections cover all links of trade, from large chains and markets to corner shops.

WHO WAS PUNISHED AND FOR WHAT

According to the official website of the Almaty akimat, the protocols were drawn up in respect of business entities for exceeding the established amount of the trade markup on socially significant food products and for non-compliance with other requirements of the legislation on trading activity.

The report does not specify how many protocols relate specifically to exceeding the markup, how many entrepreneurs were held liable, or which retail outlets are among them.

WHO INSPECTS TRADE

Control is carried out by the entrepreneurship and investments department together with the Almaty city department of trade and consumer rights protection, with the participation of other state bodies.

It is noted that meetings of the Regional Commission for the Investigation of Intermediary Schemes are held regularly in the city. The commission studies the entire pricing chain of products, from supplier to counter. Under monitoring are large retail outlets, retail chains, supermarkets, markets and corner shops.

WHY MARKUPS ARE UNDER SPECIAL SCRUTINY

The state sets a maximum amount of trade markup on socially significant products. This restriction protects buyers from unjustified price rises on essential goods. Therefore, according to the akimat, particular attention is paid to compliance with the markup.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The akimat reported that inspections will continue. The aim of the work is to achieve compliance with the law by all market participants and to keep food prices stable in the city.
