An operational meeting was held in Kazakhstan regarding the current situation at road checkpoints across the state border. Participants discussed the organisation of traffic flow and measures to speed up the passage of motor vehicles.
WHAT WAS DISCUSSED AT THE MEETING
The meeting was held on the instructions of Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister Nurlbek Nalibayev.
It was attended by the heads of the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Border Service of the National Security Committee (BS NSC) and NC KazAvtoZhol JSC.
WHAT IS THE SITUATION AT THE CHECKPOINTS
The BS NSC presented a report on the situation at the state border and on measures for the rapid passage of motor vehicles through the checkpoints of Alimbet, Zhaissan and Syrym.
On the Kazakh side, these checkpoints operate around the clock in normal mode. The materials also note a seasonal increase in transit traffic through the territory of Kazakhstan.
WHAT MEASURES ARE BEING TAKEN
In light of the growth in transit traffic, control over the timely modernisation of road checkpoints on the internal border of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has been strengthened. It is noted that this will reduce the time taken to complete checks.
In addition, service waiting areas for drivers are being created near priority checkpoints. Work on their construction is planned to be completed in 2027.
WHAT INSTRUCTIONS WERE GIVEN
Following the meeting, instructions were given to ensure the uninterrupted and accelerated passage of motor vehicles. To this end, the Ministry of Transport, together with relevant state and local executive bodies, has set up operational task forces.
The situation remains under the control of the Government.
CONTEXT
Against the backdrop of the government's current instruction, the problems with the recording and control of transit cargo previously identified by the FBRK are of particular interest. The editorial team has already drawn attention to discrepancies between data from Russian declarations and Kazakh accounting systems in the transit of livestock, as well as possible violations of veterinary control at certain border posts. Thus, the issue of speeding up the passage of vehicles is linked not only to the capacity of checkpoints, but also to how fully state systems record the movement of goods across the border.
