The former headteacher of a school in the Turkistan Region has been found guilty of abuse of office and accepting a bribe. The court sentenced him to 4 years and 8 months in prison, with a lifelong ban from holding positions in the civil service.

HOW THE CASE DEVELOPED

According to the General Prosecutor's Office, the former headteacher, identified as K., illegally awarded qualification categories to teachers without them undergoing the mandatory testing and assessment by the attestation commission. Furthermore, the court found him guilty of accepting a bribe from a teacher.

WHAT WERE THE CONSEQUENCES

The convicted individual's actions led to the unjustified payment of salaries from the budget to 12 teachers, totalling more than 16 million tenge.

WHY THE CASE WAS RE-EXAMINED

During the initial court hearing, K. was acquitted due to a lack of evidence proving the criminal offences.

Following a protest lodged by the General Prosecutor's Office through cassation proceedings, the acquittal was overturned, and the case was sent for a new appeal hearing.

WHAT DECISION THE COURT MADE

As a result of the new hearing, the court found him guilty of abuse of office and accepting a bribe.

He was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison. The court also imposed a lifelong ban on him holding positions in the civil service.
