Пожар на полигоне ТБО в Астане полностью ликвидировали

A fire at the solid domestic waste (SDW) landfill in the Baikonyr district of the city of Astana has been fully extinguished. The blaze was brought under control thanks to the joint efforts of units from the ministry of emergency situations (MES) and the city akimat.

HOW THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED

According to the MES, an operational headquarters was set up at the scene under the direction of the ministry to coordinate actions. Firefighting operations continued around the clock, and the necessary forces and resources were deployed for effective suppression.

At the same time, engineering works were carried out to cover the landfill area with inert material. The Akimat of Astana provided the engineering and construction machinery, and soil delivery was continuous.

WHAT MEASURES WERE TAKEN

In total, approximately 15,000 tonnes of inert material was delivered to and used at the landfill. This made it possible to cover virtually the entire landfill area, isolate the sources of combustion, and prevent the re-spread of fire.

As a result of the joint work of the MES units and the city akimat, the fire covering an area of 3 hectares was completely extinguished.

CONTEXT

On the night of 10 July, a rubbish fire broke out at the solid domestic waste landfill in the Baikonyr district along the Alash highway. According to the MES, the work was complicated by heavy smoke and the specific combustion characteristics of solid domestic waste, but the situation remained under control.
