A former judge of the Kyzylorda Region, Moldabek Akhmetov, has been stripped of his lifelong monthly allowance and honorary status. The decision was made following a representation from the Supreme Judicial Council, and the corresponding decree was signed by the President of Kazakhstan.
WHAT LED TO THE DECISION
According to the publication Uralsk Week, a conflict between the former judge and a current court bailiff occurred while the latter was carrying out his official duties.
It is reported that the bailiff's demands provoked a negative reaction from Moldabek Akhmetov. The bailiff attempted to record the incident on his mobile phone camera. According to a source, the former judge snatched the device from his opponent's hands and smashed it in front of witnesses.
HOW THE JUDICIAL COMMUNITY RESPONDED
After the incident, the bailiff filed a complaint with the Commission on Judicial Ethics of the Kyzylorda Region.
The commission members concluded that the former colleague's actions constituted misconduct incompatible with the requirements of judicial ethics. The collective decision was forwarded to the Head of State.
WHAT PRIVILEGES THE FORMER JUDGE HAS LOST
Following a representation from the Supreme Judicial Council, the President of Kazakhstan stripped Moldabek Akhmetov of the privileges he had been entitled to.
This refers to a lifelong monthly allowance of 500,000 tenge, as well as guarantees provided for by the Constitutional Law on the Status of Judges. It is noted that his previous professional merits and state awards did not influence the final decision.
Incidentally, the son of Moldabek Akhmetov — Alibek Akhmetov — heads the criminal division of the Aktobe Regional Court.
