In Kazakhstan, a digital religious consultation service is being launched Imam AI, developed by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (SAMK). The project will be available as a mobile application and is designed to provide official clarifications on basic questions of Islam.
HOW THE IMAM AI PROJECT WORKS
According to the MIA «Kazinform», the system is a platform based on artificial intelligence (AI) that works exclusively with an approved religious database. The service does not generate new interpretations or make independent decisions — users are only offered pre-verified formulations.
The system’s foundation includes official fatwas and collections of questions and answers.
WHY THE DIGITAL IMAM IS BEING CREATED
The project aims to reduce the risks of spreading contradictory interpretations. SAMK explained that users often perceive answers from universal AI services as official, even though they may not correspond to the approved position.
Imam AI is positioned as a single source of verified information, which, according to the developers, should improve the accuracy and consistency of religious answers.
WHAT QUESTIONS WILL THE SYSTEM BE ABLE TO HANDLE
The service is focused on standard topics of daily religious practice: prayer, fasting, zakat, Hajj, and other basic questions. However, complex or individual cases will not be addressed by the system.
If a corresponding answer is not available in the database, the query is automatically redirected to a religious specialist.
HOW DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING ARE BEING CARRIED OUT
As clarified by SAMK, the project is being created by an internal digital development department and a working group of specialists. Funding comes from internal resources.
Before launch, the system underwent a phase of internal testing. The accuracy of answers, operational stability, and the logic of their delivery were checked. Based on the results, technical and functional improvements were made.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONTENT OF THE ANSWERS
Quality control is entirely under the authority of SAMK. All answers are under constant monitoring by religious specialists, who make changes and clarifications as necessary.
LAUNCH FORMAT
The pilot launch of the project is scheduled for May this year. The service will be available free of charge as a mobile application for iOS and Android. In the future, as specified, integration with other digital platforms may be possible.
