Former Majilis deputy and member of the Respublica party Aituar Koshmambetov explained why his name is not on the list of candidates for the Kurultai. According to him, the decision was deliberate, and he will now focus on party, public and entrepreneurial activities.
WHY HE DECLINED TO PARTICIPATE
According to BES.media, Aituar Koshmambetov stated that he had been considering the decision not to take part in the Kurultai elections over the last 6 months. He thanked Aidarbek Khojanazarov and the Respublica party for their trust, noting that his work in the Majilis over 2.5 years had been an important professional experience for him.
According to the former deputy, during his time in office, he and his colleagues managed to implement a number of significant changes.
WHAT INFLUENCED THE DECISION
Aituar Koshmambetov said that working on initiatives such as the Tax Code, the Register of Domestic Producers, the National Catalogue of Goods, issues of reducing the payroll tax burden, and financing private education showed him the complexity of the decision-making process.
According to him, changes require coordination between various state bodies, so the journey from an idea to its implementation can take a long time. He also noted that his experience in business had shaped a different approach in him regarding the pace of decision-making.
WHAT THE FORMER MAJILIS MEMBER WILL DO NEXT
Aituar Koshmambetov emphasised that he is not leaving public and political life. He remains a member of the Respublica party, intends to take part in discussing draft laws, help the business community, and continue his public work.
In addition, he said he plans to devote more attention to the development of the Kazakhstan E-Commerce Association, the sports travel agency 4Lmnts.kz, and the running school Alay.Pro. According to him, these projects aim to support entrepreneurship, develop tourism, promote a healthy lifestyle, and enhance the competitiveness of the economy.
CONTEXT
The Kurultai elections are scheduled for 23 August 2026. These are the first elections since the new Constitution came into force, which formalised Kazakhstan's transition to a unicameral Parliament instead of the previous system with a Senate and Majilis. The Kurultai will consist of 145 deputies, elected from party lists based on a proportional system.
Earlier, at the congress of the Respublica party, the list of candidates for the Kurultai was approved. It includes 76 people, among them the party chairman and Majilis deputy Aidarbek Khojanazarov, the party co-chairman and managing partner of Alibekov Media Group Beibit Alibekov, as well as entrepreneur, media producer and co-founder of Producer Media Azamat Marklenov, known as one of the founders of the group "Irina Kairatovna".
Following the final joint session of the chambers of the Parliament, Majilis deputies shared what they plan to do in the coming months. Among their plans are participating in public activities, teaching, academic work, and awaiting further decisions related to the new format of work for representative bodies.
