In the artificial reservoir of the Astana Botanical Garden, a large amount of household waste and dead ducks were discovered. After footage appeared on social media, the reservoir was cleaned.

WHAT WAS DISCOVERED IN THE RESERVOIR

According to the Telegram channel "HALYQSTAN", the footage published on social media shows plastic bottles, bags, packaging, napkins and other waste.

Eyewitnesses also reported dead ducks. According to them, the birds had still been alive not long ago.

WHAT THE AKIMAT SAID

The office of the akim of the "Esil" district reported that the reservoir on the territory of the garden has now been cleaned. The authority linked the appearance of household waste to certain visitors failing to observe the rules of conduct on the territory of the Botanical Garden.

The akimat recalled that administrative liability may be incurred for polluting the territory.

Visitors were also reminded that holding picnics on the territory of the Botanical Garden is prohibited.

CONTEXT

Earlier, a local resident discovered numerous carcasses of dead birds and fish at the Aktobe Reservoir. Specialists from the Tobol-Torgai Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspectorate began an inspection to survey the reservoir.

In September 2026, a mass death of birds was also recorded at Lake Zhaman in the Kostanay region. The chairman of the Kostanay Regional Society of Hunters and Fishermen, Anatoly Kovalenko, suggested that pesticides from nearby fields could have been the cause.

In June 2026, residents of the village of Saumalkol in the Aiyrtau district of the North Kazakhstan region (NKR) reported a mass death of waterfowl on the lake of the same name. Villagers linked what happened to pollution of the reservoir and demanded an environmental inspection.
