A court has recovered more than 304 million tenge into state revenue from a resident of Astana convicted of organising the issuance of fictitious electronic invoices. According to the prosecutor's office, the scheme led to non-payment of taxes to the budget.

WHAT IS KNOWN

According to the prosecutor's office of Astana, the Interdistrict Criminal Court delivered a verdict against a resident of the capital for issuing fictitious invoices.

The court established that in 2021–2022, the convicted individual organised the issuance of fictitious electronic invoices on behalf of limited liability partnerships (LLPs) without any actual work being carried out or services rendered. This, according to the case materials, resulted in non-payment of taxes to the state budget.

WHAT THE COURT DECIDED

The city prosecutor's office filed a claim for compensation of the damage caused to the state. The court upheld the prosecutor's demands and recovered more than 304 million tenge from the convicted individual into state revenue.

In total, since the beginning of 2026, city prosecutors have filed 11 claims totalling 9.8 billion tenge.

CONTEXT

Earlier, the Astana prosecutor's office uncovered the activities of a group of individuals who, using a special technical device, organised the mass distribution of phishing SMS messages. Over four days, approximately 150,000 messages were sent to subscribers of Beeline, Kcell and Activ.

An SMS blaster — a device that mimics a mobile base station — was used for the distribution.
