In the capital, the court of first instance heard a criminal case against an employee of a trading company and a group of his acquaintances, implicated in the illegal creation of promotional codes when purchasing household appliances.

HOW THE SCHEME WORKED

According to the supervisory authority, the group's activities were halted under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office of Astana and the criminal investigation body.

The investigation established that the employee of the trading company entered into a preliminary conspiracy with 10 acquaintances. Using fake promotional codes, they made purchases of household appliances at reduced prices.

In this way, iPhone mobile phones, laptops, televisions, refrigerators, and other electronics were acquired.

SALE OF GOODS AND DAMAGES

The purchased appliances were then resold by the participants in the case to third parties.

The court assessed the amount of material damage to the trading company at 473.6 million tenge. Other details — for example, the exact number of goods sold or the mechanism of their further sale — are not specified in the case materials.

COURT DECISION

The court found all 10 defendants guilty and sentenced them to imprisonment for a term of 4 to 8 years.

Civil lawsuits for compensation for the material damage caused were also upheld.

The sentence has not entered into legal force and may be appealed in accordance with the established procedure.
