Two officials in the Zhetisu region have been relieved of their posts for violating anti-corruption restrictions related to participation in gambling and betting. One of them headed a district division.
WHAT VIOLATIONS WERE IDENTIFIED
The Koksу District Prosecutor's Office, during an analysis of gambling addiction prevention and compliance with anti-corruption restrictions, identified facts of individual civil servants participating in gambling and betting through bookmakers.
It was established that the officials systematically placed bets using a bookmaker's mobile application. The total amount of top-ups to gaming accounts exceeded 7.7 million tenge.
WHAT MEASURES WERE TAKEN
Following consideration of an act of prosecutorial response, the Disciplinary Commission decided to relieve two officials of their posts.
One of those relieved held the position of head of a district division. His length of civil service exceeded 20 years.
WHAT THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE REPORTED
The Prosecutor's Office of the Zhetisu Region stated that the participation of civil servants in gambling is considered in the context of compliance with anti-corruption restrictions.
The department also noted that such actions may damage the honour and reputation of the civil service, reduce public trust and create corruption risks.
CONTEXT
Earlier, civil servants in the Shortandy District of the Akmola Region were brought to disciplinary responsibility for participating in gambling and betting through bookmakers. For one of them, the amount of top-ups to a gaming account exceeded 5.7 million tenge.
