In Shymkent, a local blogger and three other individuals suspected of extorting money from entrepreneurs and civil servants have been detained. According to the investigation, they demanded money under the threat of publishing video material on social media that could damage reputations.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
According to Polisia.kz, officers from the organised crime unit of the Shymkent Police Department (DP) have stopped the activities of a group suspected of extorting money.
According to the police, a local blogger, whose Instagram audience numbers approximately 150,000 followers, along with three alleged accomplices, deliberately filmed entrepreneurs and civil servants.
WHAT THE DETAINEES ARE SUSPECTED OF
According to the investigation, the filming was prompted by alleged disciplinary offences committed during the performance of official duties, as well as possible violations related to entrepreneurial activity.
Subsequently, the suspects demanded money from individuals in exchange for refraining from publishing these video recordings on social media.
WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW
The suspects have been detained and placed in custody. Investigative actions are currently underway.
