The Auyl party announced a change of leadership at an extraordinary congress held on 23 June. Party chairman Serik Yegizbayev stepped down, and delegates unanimously elected Kairat Aituganov as the new leader.

WHY THE LEADERSHIP CHANGED

Serik Yegizbayev linked the decision to step down to political changes in the country following the constitutional reform and the need to renew the party's working approaches.

He stated that he considers his departure a logical step, demonstrating the party's readiness for internal renewal and participation in upcoming elections under the new political system.

At the same time, Serik Yegizbayev emphasised that he remains a party member and intends to support the new chairman.

WHO BECAME THE PARTY LEADER

Serik Yegizbayev proposed his deputy, Kairat Aituganov, for the position of chairman. The congress delegates unanimously supported this candidacy.

Kairat Aituganov has worked in the agricultural sector and public service for over 40 years. Over the years, he has held positions as First Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Deputy Akim of the Karaganda Region, and Deputy Chairman of the Board of KazAgro.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN KAZAKHSTAN'S PARTY SYSTEM

On 13 June, the chairman of the Ak Zhol democratic party, Azat Peruashev, announced his resignation after 15 years of leading the political association. At the party congress, he stated that he considers the periodic renewal of leadership in political organisations important. The party's new chairwoman became the Vice-Speaker of the Mazhilis, Daniya Yespayeva.

Furthermore, on 12 June, the AMANAT party announced the accession of the Adilet party, which is headed by Aibek Dadebai. The party leaders described this step as a process of consolidating political forces to build a "Fair Kazakhstan."

These decisions are being made against the backdrop of preparations for political changes in the country. In August 2026, Kazakhstan will hold elections for a new unicameral parliament — the Kurultai — which will replace the previous bicameral system. Against this backdrop, several parties have announced personnel and organisational changes.
