The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced the final results of the election of deputies to the Kurultai and has distributed 145 mandates among the five parties that crossed the 5% threshold.
HOW THE 145 MANDATES WERE DISTRIBUTED
The parties' results and the number of seats obtained are as follows:
- the "Ädilet" party — 71.17% and 110 mandates;
- the "Auy" party — 6.26% and 10 mandates;
- Respublica — 5.56% and 9 mandates;
- the "Aq Jol" party — 5.21% and 8 mandates;
- the Nationwide Social Democratic Party (NSDP) — 5.11% and 8 mandates.
WHICH PARTIES DID NOT CROSS THE FIVE PER CENT THRESHOLD
Two parties did not cross the established 5% threshold and will not take part in the distribution of deputy mandates:
- the People's Party of Kazakhstan (PPK) — 3.11%;
- the "Baitaq" party — 1.07%.
Their votes were not taken into account when distributing the 145 mandates among the parties that crossed the threshold.
After the results were announced, former PPK chairman Yermukhamet Yertysbayev stated that he had decided to leave active politics. He said that the party accepts the voting results and does not intend to contest them.
WHAT WAS THE TURNOUT AT THE ELECTION
The final turnout at the election was 74.08%. A total of 9.35 million voters took part in the ballot.
The option "Against all" was chosen by 2.51% of voters.
CONTEXT
The election of deputies to the Kurultai took place on 23 August. Seven political parties took part in it.
Following the announcement of the final election results, the next stage of forming the political system begins. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev previously stated that the name of the new vice-president would be announced within a week or 10 days.
In addition, after the Kurultai is formed, the Government will resign, and the formation of a new cabinet of ministers will then begin.
