The Republican competition AFM AI Hackathon 2026, dedicated to developing digital solutions for combating financial crimes, was held in Almaty. Over two days, participants presented projects in the fields of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analysis.
WHO TOOK PART
According to the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Financial Monitoring (AFM), on 24–25 June 2026, together with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), the Republican competition AFM AI Hackathon 2026 was held.
The event brought together more than 350 participants from different regions of Kazakhstan. The hackathon involved IT specialists, data analysts, software developers, artificial intelligence experts, and students from the country's leading universities.
As the organisers noted, the competition was held as part of the implementation of the 'Law and Order' principle and was aimed at introducing modern digital solutions into the sphere of combating economic and financial crimes, as well as developing the innovative potential of young people.




WHAT PROJECTS DID PARTICIPANTS WORK ON
Over the two days, teams developed solutions in three areas:
- Digital Shadow — monitoring the dark web and collecting data from open sources (OSINT);
- AI Shield — creating artificial intelligence algorithms to protect databases and ensure cybersecurity;
- AI Media Watch — identifying signs of illegal gambling businesses and financial pyramids on social networks.



WHAT RESULTS DID THE ORGANISERS ANNOUNCE
According to the AFM, the hackathon provided young specialists with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and propose practical solutions for tasks in the field of financial security.
Following the competition, the best projects were recognised with awards. They also received the opportunity for further development and implementation in practical activities to combat financial offences.
