The Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition (APDC) has issued a warning to Kazakhtelecom JSC following the company's announcement of tariff increases, including for home internet.

According to the agency's press service, on 20 May, Kazakhtelecom published information about a price rise effective from 1 July 2024.

In particular, changes are reported for 51 legacy tariff plans, including home internet services as well as bundled mobile services.

"In accordance with Article 198, paragraph 1 of the Entrepreneurial Code, and with the aim of preventing violations of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of competition protection, on 24 May 2024 the APDC issued a warning to Kazakhtelecom JSC about the inadmissibility of actions that could lead to a violation of the law," the statement reads.

It will be recalled that earlier, APDC Chairman Marat Omarov stated that the Agency suspects three mobile operators in Kazakhstan of collusion regarding the increase in their tariffs. He noted that an inspection into their activities is currently being finalised, conclusions are being drawn, and certain court proceedings have already been initiated.
