President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated the need for the accelerated development of a modern waste processing system and gave the government a number of specific instructions in the field of ecology.
According to Akorda, in Astana, Almaty and Shymkent, projects are already being developed that provide for the disposal of up to 1.5 thousand tonnes of waste per day while simultaneously generating electricity. Across the country, more than 40 projects in the waste disposal sector are planned to be implemented.
"All of them must be launched efficiently and on time. It is also important to pay attention to the development of sorting facilities and landfills," the head of state emphasised.
As the President noted, international experience shows that postponing these issues leads to serious environmental problems and affects the quality of life of the population. In this regard, the government was instructed to take comprehensive measures to develop the waste management industry.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev specifically addressed the issue of creating eco-parks in the suburban areas of major cities and regional centres.
"The government, together with regional akims, needs to take measures to create eco-parks. This is a strategic task. The Presidential Administration will monitor the implementation of this task," he stated.
The President drew attention to the excessive pressure on Borovoye, where residents of the capital go en masse on weekends and holidays, which negatively affects the ecosystem of the natural park. According to him, creating eco-parks near large cities will reduce the anthropogenic load on specially protected natural areas.
At the same time, Tokayev stressed that cleanliness must remain a key condition in the development of eco-parks.
"Look at what is happening in Borovoye. It is simply shameful. It is not aliens who are littering there, but our people," the head of state noted.
It was previously reported that the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Yerlan Nysanbayev, announced the elimination of 91% of landfills. According to him, by the end of this year, the volume of standard emissions from the largest enterprises decreased by 148 thousand tonnes, or 7.2%, compared to 2022.
