Theft of 250 million tenge uncovered at FC Aktobe

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

The Prosecutor's Office of the Aktobe Region conducted an inspection at the football club «Aktobe» and identified financial violations totalling 250 million tenge

According to the press service of the department, these included dubious transactions involving player transfers and air carriers.

The prosecutors also found that funds allocated for players' meals were spent on the personal needs of the FC administration.

As a result of the inspection, three pre-trial investigations have been launched under paragraph 2, part 4, article 189 ("Embezzlement of entrusted property on an especially large scale"), paragraph 1, part 4, article 361 ("Abuse of official powers"), and paragraph 2, part 4, article 190 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Fraud").

The criminal cases have been transferred to the Anti-Corruption Service for investigation. The progress of the inquiry is being monitored by the regional prosecutor.

It will be recalled that in March, players, coaches, and staff of FC «Atyrau» threatened the regional department of physical culture and sports with boycotting the match against FC «Aktobe», scheduled for 30 March, if their three months of unpaid wages were not paid.

It was reported that club employees were in a difficult financial situation: they could not pay off loans or support their families. The workers blamed the head of the sports department, Nurbol Sadykov, who allegedly failed to allocate funding to the club from the regional budget.

At the time, the department of physical culture and sports explained that the suspension of funding was due to numerous violations in the club's activities identified by the regional prosecutor's office. Incidentally, the players of the club «Atyrau» did go ahead with the match against FC «Aktobe», but lost the game with a score of 0:4.

In April, FC «Atyrau» found itself at the centre of discussions following publications about its financial situation and personnel changes. Against the backdrop of debts and poor sporting results, salary increases for the administrative and coaching staff were recorded at the club.
