The Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM) became the first in the CIS to recover stolen crypto assets belonging to Kazakh citizens from a financial pyramid scheme abroad, worth 250 million tenge

According to the agency's press service, only a few countries worldwide have achieved similar results.

"The Agency, using modern IT tools, dismantled the high-tech financial pyramid 'Eolus' within 2.5 months, which had been attracting funds from Kazakh citizens in cryptocurrency," the statement said.

It has been reported that the financial pyramid involved nearly 2,500 investors across 12 regions of the country. The organiser has already been sentenced to 6 years in prison with confiscation of property.

It is reported that the perpetrators used numerous transit crypto wallets to obscure the trail and withdraw the investors' funds.

"The Agency's special unit, using modern blockchain analysis tools, tracked all transactions and identified the main wallets where the criminal proceeds were consolidated," the statement said.

As a result, the AFM transferred the stolen funds to a special agency account. These will subsequently be used to compensate the victims.

Recall that earlier, the AFM department in the Akmola region shut down the activities of the financial pyramid 'Eolus'. The company had attracted investors for three months, positioning itself as an organisation involved in the implementation of renewable energy sources, such as wind turbines, abroad.
